Christmas and Fevers

Ben has informed me that it has been WAAAYYY too long since I last updated the blog. I informed him that no one has complained and he informed me that he is complaining. Thus, you get this lovely blog update. It seems like blogging comes in waves and I swear nothing eventful happens at our house, but Ben says I must blog anyways.

The holiday season started and ended with a fever. I know it sounds way fun, but everything in between was super fun. On the Monday before Christmas the girls when to their 6 month appointment (at 7 months, we are a little behind). This was the first time I had gone alone to the pediatrician when the girls were getting shots. It is hard to go alone, I'll admit because you have two screaming babies who are VERY upset that you just let them get poked in the legs and there is little you can do to console both of them. We made it through shots and here are the stats of the girls.

Eve
Weight: 14 lbs 8 oz (10th percentile, adjusted 50th percentile)
Length: 26in ( 45th percentile, adjusted 75th percentile)
Head: 17in (50th percentile; I don't know what this is adjusted I didn't ask)

Savannah:
Weight: 14 lbs 6 oz (8th percentile, adjusted 50th percentile)
Length: 26 1/4 in (5oth percentile, adjusted 75th percentile)
Head 17in (50th percentile)

I'm going to do a separate post about the girls, so you don't get to know right now the things I want to remember.

That night Eve woke up with a fever. After looking at all my vaccination information I found out that it is "normal" to get a fever after you get your vaccinations. For Ben and I a fever was brand new, neither of the girls had ever had a fever before. We went to get our nifty thermometer and found out that the batteries had died. We had only used the thermometer a couple of times and obviously there wasn't much battery life to begin with. This meant Ben had to go to the store at midnight to buy a thermometer/battery so we could take Eve's temperature.

While Ben was gone, my job was to console Eve and try to get the temperature down. Eve has quite the pair of lungs when she is angry so I also had to work on keeping her somewhat quiet so she wouldn't wake Savannah. The last thing I needed was 2 angry babies. When Ben came home we found out that Eve had a fever, so we spent time cuddling with her and trying to cool her down. We didn't get much sleep that night, but with the little sleep she had she sure was a happy baby the next morning.

Our Christmas this year was kind of spread out. The Christmas gift from my parents arrived in November so we opened that early. The girls Christmas gifts from my parents arrived the second week of December and a few days later we opened those. I just wanted to get the most out of their gifts :) We had our Christmas as a family a little early this year as we didn't want to lug all of our presents to and from Cache Valley as we don't have a very big car. We had a very low-key Christmas with dresses, pjs, and toys for the girls and a few gifts for Ben and I. We even tried to get the girls to help us open the presents while they were sitting in their Bumbos but they weren't so into the "ripping" aspect of things. On the other hand, they loved to play with the wrapping paper and bows.

"What are you doing, Mom?" (Eve, Savannah)
"We love Christmas!" (Eve, Savannah)

We headed up to Cache Valley Thursday night so we could see my parents before they headed up to Boise. It was Christmas at the Miskin's this year. We spent one day at my parents and that pretty much consisted of my Mom and I running errands. I was given a sewing machine for my birthday and I had the opportunity to use it with Trisha, but for some reason I couldn't get it to work. My mom insisted that I bring it to Logan and so I can sew something substantial. I ended up sewing a cover for my machine in the camoflauge canvas fabric ("Camo Lamo"). I told my mom we really needed to save it for Trish so it could go with her afghan, but alas it was the only canvas fabric we had. Sorry, Trish! For dinner that night, my grandma came over and we played our standard game, "9-card". I'm pretty sure I lost, but it was a blast to play games as Ben and I don't get much of a chance to play games anymore.

On Saturday we headed to the Miskins for Christmas. The girls were greeted warmly, as it had been a while since we had seen all of Ben's family. According to Ben, Christmas was on the small side as it was only his parents, Elise, and Kristana. Eve and Savannah didn't care as there were plenty of hands willing to hold and play with them. On Christmas, we went to church and came back and opened presents. The girls got new toys and clothes which were much needed. They were kind of grouchy for the present opening part as they hadn't had much of a nap, but we didn't want them to miss out on their first Christmas (I know they wouldn't remember much but it is the principle of the matter). Eve woke up first and she was infatuated with this frog that you squeezed and its eyes would spring out. She would try to grab the eyes and was trying to figure out how it worked.
"Oooo, look at this frog and it's silly eyes" (Eve, with her new dress)
"This frog is pretty cool, Dad" (Savannah in her new dress.)

Savannah was super funny in that she also like to watch all the presents being opened. We have funny girls!! They are such peerers. They love to stare at people and see what they are doing. Plus, they have such animated facial expressions I just love it!
"What are grandma and grandpa doing?" (Eve)

"What did Aunt Elise get in that package?" (Savannah)
Famil Picture (Ben, Sav, Me, and Eve)

We went home for a few days and then came back on Friday to spend time with Trent and Brittney's family. Their kids had gotten wands from grandma and grandpa. Nadia especially loved turning people into princesses and toads. I don't know how many times I went from a toad to a princess. Nadia tried to turn Ben into a princess and he responded "No, I'm a King, baby!". Nadia then said "I'll turn you into a baby King!". It seriously made me laugh. Atleast she got the gist of Ben's statement :). Kyle and Joyce watched all the grandkids so the rest of us could go see Mission Impossible 4. It was so fun to get out as Ben and I really don't have time to get out much. It was fun to get together and see the family, we don't get to see each other very often.

When we came back, we found out the girls had caught a cold. UGGGHH! It just means little sleep for either Ben or I. With the girls cold, Savannah got a fever and a cough. We are now slowly getting over the sickness and can't wait til the last traces of the runny nose go away!

We sure love seeing family and can't wait to get together again!
