Eve vs the Tile Floor

Today has been a ROUGH day.  Ben was home for lunch and the girls were playing by the front door waiting for Ben to come out of the bathroom.  I was in the kitchen when I heard a rolling sound and screaming.  I came in to find Eve's mouth bleeding.  She apparently banged her teeth on the tile floor.  My guess is she was playing on the wagon and it slipped out from under her and she banged her teeth on the floor, but I really have no idea.  I quickly scooped her up and tried to make the bleeding stop.  Ben came out and was looking at her mouth when he realized that she chipped one of her front teeth and the other front tooth was pushed up.

By this point I was freaking out and Eve was still crying as we were trying to get the bleeding to stop from her mouth and her lip.  I called my dentist to see what he would recommend we do and to see if he saw pediatric patients.  He recommended that I go see a pediatric dentist so away Eve and I went to the dentist while Sav took her nap.

I thought Eve did REALLY well considering she was so miserable.  Her lip is pretty cut up and her gums are bloody.  The dentist told us that three of her teeth are mobilized (meaning they have some movement and possibly broken ligament) and that 2 of her teeth are pushed up (one of her front teeth and her k-9).  We also learned that 2 of her teeth were pushed forward.  To say the least her teeth have experienced a TON of movement.  They gave us an antibiotic to help with infection that we are to apply 2-3 times a day for the next 7-10 days and that she needs to be on a SOFT diet.  I also learned that I need to get her to stop sucking her thumb so that her teeth can heal better.  Wish me luck as I try to convince her not to suck her thumb and get her to enjoy her SOFT diet.  After snacks today I decided that Sav has to also go on a SOFT diet as I can't make Eve understand why she can't have the same food that Sav is eating.  I can't believe all this happened only a few days before her birthday.  I guess we will do something really low key for her birthday and pick soft things that she can eat.

We go back in 2 weeks where they will do an x-ray and see what needs to be done.

Here is a pic of her poor chipped tooth and her cut lip.  Poor friend!

  1. Seriously, these are the appointments that I hate the worst. It is sad to see a little kid (or big kid) with broken teeth from trauma.

  6. BOO! Poor girl. It's a good thing Eve's so tough! I always wanted to get a black eye when I was younger, maybe Eve has had a secret wish to have a chipped tooth and this is her dream come true. ;)
