Bottles

Whose kid has an obsession with carrying around bottles?  Well my kid certainly does!  Ben thought this story was entertaining.  I wasn't so happy during the story but now I can kind of laugh about the weirdness of my child :).

Sav loves to carry around bottles around the house.  They are small plastic bottles that I used when I traveled for work.  One even has some sort of liquid in it which Sav loves because when she shakes it bubbles form in the bottle.  The other bottles she loves come from their toy shopping cart.  There is a small bottle of water and a bottle of milk.  If possible she will carry a bottle in each hand.

Today I was making Peanut Butter bars and in the middle of making it I realized that I didn't have any vanilla.  I decided that I would run to the store really quickly and pick up the vanilla.  (I know thinking I could get anywhere quickly with the girls is crazy talk but I didn't have another choice.)  I got the girls ready and tried to usher them out  the door.  I got Eve in the car and was heading back into the house to get Sav when I noticed that she was carrying her two bottles.  I usually don't let them take toys in the car.  So I told her she needed to leave her bottles in the house to which she replied "No".  I tried to convince her to leave them in the house yet again, but she emphatically told me "No" and wouldn't release the bottles.  I decided it wasn't worth the fight as I was in a hurry and she could just carry them while sitting in her carseat.  When we got to the store, I was attempting to get Sav out of her carseat and I reminded her that she needed to leave the bottles in the car.  (She has brought other toys with her in the car before and whenever I tell her to leave them in the car she does without hesitation).  When I tried to take her precious bottles from her, since she wouldn't drop them, she proceeded to scream and flail.  I was able to remove the bottles from her vise like grip and get her out of the car in once peace.  As she was flailing and screaming in my arms over the travesty that her bottles had to be left in the car, I went to the other side of the car to get Eve out.  I had to set Sav down and when I did her full blown tantrum in the parking lot began.  She stomped her feet and wailed and I'm sure she would have rolled on the ground if we weren't in a wet parking lot.  All the while I was getting Eve out of the car.    I successfully picked up both girls and tried to soothe Sav as we walked into the store.  She was still sniffling when I put the girls in the cart but I figured the tantrum was now over.

I would be wrong.  We got to the spices aisle and I picked out a bottle of vanilla and was planning on carrying it instead of putting it in the cart.  At soon as Sav saw that I had a bottle she stood up in the cart and was climbing over Eve, who was closer to me at the time, so she could reach this new found bottle.  The whining started again so I caved and let her hold the vanilla.  We got to the self check-out and I knew I had to get the bottle from Sav so I could scan it.  I tried to ask for it and of course she said "No".  So I did what I had to do and pried the vanilla out of her hand.  To which she responded by screaming bloody murder and lunging for the vanilla that I currently held in my hand.  So I did what any respecting person would do.  I quickly scanned the vanilla and handed it back to my child so she would stop screaming and quickly left the store.  When we got back to the car, I gave Sav her other 2 bottles that we left in the car, so I could have my vanilla, and she was perfectly content that is until we arrived home where she threw another tantrum.  Today must have been a rough day!

Ben and I have now decided that Sav needs to have some "away" time from her lovely bottles so she won't be so attached.   Because honestly it is ridiculous and cute that she carries them around with her.  She uses her little bottles to feed her monkey and bear food.   It is pretty cute.  I guess I will be getting used to this quirk.

  2. I totally thought the story was going to end with a bottle of vanilla extract spilled all over the grocery store floor. hehe... wouldn't that have been fun?!? Isn't it funny what kids decide to play with!

  3. Kristana and I noticed Savannah's obsession when we babysat a few weeks ago and thought it rather funny and unique. What a fun time shopping!!

  4. Haha! That's hilarious. Brax had an obsession with some play-food spoons we had. We lost them eventually, and that forced him to get over his obsession with carrying them.

And public tantrums are the best! ;)
