So ever since I got my Health Screening at work I have been trying to eat better. During this screening they ask you how many fruits and vegetables you eat a day. I got to realizing that I am lucky if I get one serving of vegetables a day and I hardly ever eat fruit. Thus, I decided to change what I bring to lunch everyday. I have now started to bring fruit and carrots every day to work instead of crackers or chips. For those of you who don't know I truly despise carrots. I think they are nasty but I eat them plain and I manage to eat all the carrots that I bring. I won't eat them at home but I have realized that I do eat them at work because sometimes I enjoy something to munch on. I have also tried to bring food from home instead of going out to eat. This is for two reasons one because I'm cheap and second it is probably healthier. For the past three months I have been bringing sandwiches to work. My family thinks I weird but I don't like sandwiches. If I could choose something to have for lunch it would not be sandwiches, yet some how I manage to eat them everyday. Most days I have to choke them down so I polled my family and I now have new ideas for lunches. My sister, Kim, laughed at me and said I was a hopeless cause because I don't like sandwiches. Any who I got some great ideas that I will be trying out.
Also Ben and I have been trying to run but it is hard because it is so hot at night and by the time it cools down it is dark and I don't like running in the dark. This week I decided to try out this new work out video I had. To say the least it is kicking my trash. Today I was so sore at work every time I got up to go get something my thighs would just burn. I am hoping that as I continue this work out that it won't hurt nearly as bad.
Ben and I still need to find something we can do together that is active. I tried to convince him to do the work out video but he just laughed. I guess we will have to find other ideas. If you have any good ideas let me know. We have resorted to going on walks which I think is a step in the right direction.
I have been trying to get Lindsay to play ultimate frisbee or to even toss the frisbee with me since we got married. She doesn't get as much joy from it as I do though. Maybe you and Ben will have a more perfect marriage with the sanctity of the frisbee.
ReplyDeleteAlso, one of my favorite lunch items is fruit like berries, peaches or grapes in yogurt. That way you get fruit and calcium and goodness all in one easy to make creation.
First: Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Chelllllllllleeeeeee! Happy Birthday to you!!! Sorry I am late but I hope you had a great day!
ReplyDeleteSecond: I need to know Kim's ideas for lunches because school just started this week and I am already sick of sandwiches as is Tim. Third: What workout video do you have? The ones I have are pretty lame and I don't feel a thing from them, but they do provide a good laugh.
Fifth: To answer your question about active ideas. Tim and I play frisbee golf with ian (which is not very active -ultimate frisbee is but not soo much frisbee golf). We like to throw the football around outside and love going for bike rides all over the valley. However in the winter ummm mariocart on the wii??? Yeah we do nothing we are both trying to keep our heads glued on that exercise would surely throw us overboard. So I am curious to hear others ideas as well.
Sixth: Props to you on eating carrots and having sandwiches at work though. Trail mix is my favorite to munch on (I throw in extra M&M's :) Sorry for the long novel I clearly need to just call and talk to you it has been too long. Thanks for the update. Two in just about a week -Look at you go!!!
I hate sandwiches too! It must be a family thing :) You could always get a thermos and bring soup just a suggestion! You inspire me!
ReplyDeleteI don't bring a sandwich either. I keep cereal at my desk (Honey Bunches of oats or Fiber One). Even dull cereals (like Cheerios or rice chex) seem good at work. I eat them while I work. It is a good way to get fiber. My typical lunch is grapes, string cheese, apple/banana and sometimes pumpkin/banana/poppy seed bread.
ReplyDeleteBadmitten would be something you could do in your backyard. It isn't too active, but its more fun than running.
What workout video do you have? The Jillian Michaels 30 day shred video is awesome and it's only 27 minutes long with warm up and down. It's been helping me! I ate a lot of leftovers also at work and loved to munch, so it was always hard to lose weight! I don't really have any lunch suggestions for you sorry! I love sandwiches!
ReplyDeleteCara that is so funny I have Jillian Michaels 30 day shred too! It looks like great minds think a like. It has been killing me, but I have only been doing it a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteAsh I have Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. It is about a 30 minute work out but it has been helping me. So the ideas that people have given me are pitas. You can put pizza toppings inside and heat it up. Wraps have been popular so you get meat, lettuce, cucumbers, and sauce or whatever else you want to put inside. I am looking forward to that one. Tuna sandwiches just to put a twist on the sandwich thing. Salads to add variety. Bagels or bagels with chicken salad in it. So I have a lot of choices left to try out:)
You shame me into eating more healthily. (Is that a word?) I had to start buying candy bars I didn't like for birthdays for my school kids so I wouldn't eat them for lunch when I forgot to bring one!
ReplyDeleteI think we all got the sweet tooth from Mom. Cherri, at least you don't eat candy bars you don't like. Some of the rest of us will eat anything!
