My Wellness Challenge

So this past week, my work started a wellness challenge. This wellness challenge consists of exercising 150 minutes a day (approx 30 minutes 5 days a week) and trying to eat at least 5 servings of fruits/vegetables a day (combined). When they first introduced this I knew I wanted to try to be a part of it. I have trouble being motivated to do either of these two things especially eating the amount of fruits/vegetables that I should. I am lucky if I get 2-3 servings of fruits and vegetables. Thus, I thought I would try to push myself to eat at least 5.

Last week was the first week of the wellness challenge. The wellness challenge lasts until the end of May. I am hoping I will continue to progress with this lovely wellness challenge. The other fun thing about this is that I am doing it as part of a Stats group which actually makes me more motivated to complete the different aspects of the challenge because it not only affects me but it also affects the group.

This first week has been a little bit tough for me. The first couple of days I definitely wasn't prepared to start the wellness challenge. I didn't have the sufficient supplies. In order to get anywhere close to meeting my 5 servings a day goal I have to eat about 3 servings while I am at work. In order to do that I have to eat a serving about every two hours. I eat one at 10, 12, and then my last one at 2. I usually try to eat the other 2 once I am home. Hai, my coworker, was telling me that technically you are supposed to eat every two hours. When you eat you are supposed to eat good things, like fruits or vegetables otherwise eating every two hours could be very bad. The reason for this is that if you wait too long you are starving your body and it doesn't know when you will feed it again so it holds on to pointless fats and your metabolism slows down. I have no idea if this is really true but it kind of made sense to me and there was no other way I could reach my goal if I didn't eat every two hours a serving of fruits/vegetables.

The exercise part has also been slightly difficult. Some days when I get home from work I really don't feel like exercising but I try to push my way through it. It was nice a few days last week so I convinced Ben to go on a walk with me. I think it will be easier to exercise once it warms up. It is so hard to enjoy working out to a work-out video.

I was able to make my goal last week, hopefully it will continue on and eventually doing these things will hopefully turn into a habit.
