Valentine's Day

For Valentine's day Ben and I really celebrated on Saturday. After Ben's church basketball game we headed to the Red Iguana to have some Mexican food. Ben and I had never been there before but we had heard they had excellent food and we wanted to try it out. Plus, the Red Iguana was on the show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. We had to go and check it out. When we arrived there I was a little skeptical because the restaurant looked pretty run down. Since we went for lunch there was only a ten minute wait which was nice. Lunch was fantastic! Ben got one of their Mole dishes with chocolate in it and I got a pulled pork dish. It was definitely scrumptious. After lunch we perused their dessert menu. Ben had tried several things on the dessert menu on his mission and he wanted to try it again. We ended up having Tres Leches cake. This is basically a cake soaked in sweet and condensed milk, vanilla, and caramel. It was very tasty, I probably could have done without the cherry glaze on the top but it was still very tasty.

After that we came home and chilled because we were so full from lunch.

I think Ben humors me. On Thursday, I had this brilliant idea that we should make cookies on Valentine's day or Valentine's day eve. Ben was at school late that evening and I couldn't decide what kind of cookies I wanted to make. Thus, I bought ingredients for several different cookies so depending on my mood on Saturday I would be ready for anything.

What we finally decided on was Bob Cookies. Ben kept asking me why they were called Bob cookies and honestly I have no idea. I personally like the name Bob Cookies. It is much more exciting than calling them Rolo Cookies which is what you put inside the cookies. Ben had never had these cookies so I knew he would be in for a treat. This is us making our cookies (Ben is humoring me in these pictures :) ).

I think I will like this tradition of making cookies on Valentine's day/eve.

For the official Valentine's day we made Bacon Chicken with potatoes and beans. It was yummy! We hadn't cooked this dish for a while and boy did it bring back good memories.

  1. Making cookies is a fun tradition!! You tell Ben that Bob Cookies were so named because my college roommates and I made these cookies for the guys we liked. 'Bob' was the code name for that special guy when we didn't want to use his real name. Sounds kind of stupid now... but that was like 9 years ago... man, I'm old...
